In 1989, 14 determined watercolorists dedicated themselves to promoting public awareness of watercolor artists and their significant creative contributions in a permanent painting medium. They created The Western Colorado Watercolor Society.
“What is unique about those founders and what remains unique today is The Western Colorado Watercolor Society members are extremely regionally diverse.” said Sandy King, president of the society. “Those early founders came from Montrose, Delta, Austin, Mesa, Hotchkiss, Cedaredge and Grand Junction. Today's membership is just as diverse with a good representation from the entire state of Colorado, and a significant percentage of our members from all over the United States. In fact, we have over 25 states represented. They all come together to encourage and inspire watercolor as a medium.”
The Western Colorado Watercolor Society has been holding their members exhibit at The Art Center for over a decade and support many of the educational programs of The Art Center.

June 30 - July 28, 2007
The Art Center Annual Student and Instructor Exhibit will be one display in our Studio Colorado Gallery beginning July 1. The concept of the show is to showcase the work that is being created by our student body and their instructors that inspire with their own work. Take a moment to see what artwork has been developing over the last class sessions.
“This is an opportunity for folks to see the endless possibilities for them to become involved with Art Center classes. We have classes for the novice to the expert and this show showcases the amount of creativity of our local community.”; If you would like to find out more about our educational programming, contact: The Art Center

Grand Illusions
August 3 - August 25, 2007

Founded in 1949, the Brush & Palette Club’s early members began to pursue the idea of an art center for Grand Junction. In 1953, articles of incorporation were filed, and Fred Mantey presented the group a deed for an acre of land in Mantey Heights. In 1957, that parcel was sold, and the first Art Center was a house purchased on 7th Street near the present Art Center. Its original name was the Mesa County Art Center.
While the Brush & Palette Club have been holding an annual show for its members since 1947, the show has been held at The Art Center since 1961. In addition, Brush and Palette Club members over the years have been responsible for starting many of the educational programs that remain so popular at The Art Center. The Art Center’s popular Summer Art Camp is one of those programs.
